Edward J. Starkus

Holden - Edward Joseph Starkus, 81, of Holden, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on April 23rd, 2024, after a battle with cancer.

Edward was born on March 23, 1943, to Joseph and Hilda (Savinsky) Starkus in Morningdale (Boylston), Massachusetts. After graduating from Saint John's High School, Edward went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Clark University. Edward worked as Chief Financial Officer for Leominster Hospital for over 30 years where he became friends with many of his team members.

In 1967, Edward married his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Nygard) and they shared a wonderful life together for over 56 years. They went on to have three beautiful daughters, Karen Nahrwold and her husband, Timothy of Rutland, Laurie Cote and her husband, Michael of Princeton and Brenda Prachniak and her husband, Kieth of Holden; his siblings Geraldine Zecco and her husband, Francis Zecco Sr. of Holden, Joyce L'Heureux of Valencia, CA, Charlott Delfem of Worcester and James Starkus and his wife, Diane of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves his two granddaughters, nieces, and nephews, as well as many loving and supporting friends.

Edward was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing on courses at Sterling Country Club, Kettle Brook Golf Club and Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, among many. He loved working in his large vegetable garden and maintaining his delightful fruit trees, skills that he learned to appreciate from his father. He was a member of Saint Mary's Church in Jefferson, MA for over 50 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 2nd at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. A private interment will be held at a later date.
