Sherry L. Powers

November 27, 1949 — August 10, 2024

Ludlow– Sherry L. Powers of Ludlow passed away at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield on Saturday, August 10. Born in Worcester to Stanley and Mary (Burroughs) Powers on November 27, 1949, Sherry grew up in the Jefferson neighborhood of Holden before moving to Springfield and then Ludlow, where she resided for the past 30 years.

Sherry leaves behind her beloved daughters Jessica Shyloski of Cambridge and Emily Shyloski of Norwood. She also leaves her brother-in-law Peter Bruschi and his husband Michael Heaney of Rochester, NY. Sherry will also be forever remembered and missed by many cousins and dear friends, especially Liissa Carroll and David Whitney of Palmer and their daughters Libby Del Greco (Rob) of White Plains, NY and Katy Whitney of Seattle. She also leaves her dear pets and constant companions Ringo, Nemo, and Chloe, as well as her wonderful neighbors in the Southview neighborhood in Ludlow.

Sherry was predeceased by her husband Joseph C. Shyloski, Jr and her parents Stanley and Mary (Burroughs) Powers.

Sherry started her career at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton before moving to Baystate Medical Center, first in the intensive care unit and then neurology, from which she retired.

The most important thing to Sherry was her family, and her daughters Jessica and Emily were her two North Stars as she navigated her life. She would tell you that she was the luckiest person to have been able to share them with the love of her life, Joe. Her mother Mary was her best friend and bedrock of support. They created many happy memories on vacations to Disney World, Lake George, the Bahamas, and even a dude ranch in Colorado. Sherry also adored time spent with her family on her beloved Cape Cod.

The people Sherry loved all had a favorite homemade dessert of hers, and she would spend days preparing everyone’s favorite in advance of holidays and celebrations. No holiday at her house was complete without her signature blue Christmas lights, a table full of desserts, and plates full of leftovers to take home. At holidays, Sherry also took joy in finding the perfect gift for everyone on her list. She loved perusing gift shops and toy stores finding exactly what would make her loved ones’ lives easier, or at least make them laugh.

Calling hours for Sherry will be held on Friday, August 16 at 11am, followed by a funeral service at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden at noon and burial at Grove Cemetery. The family invites you to wear a shade of purple in honor of Sherry’s favorite color. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dakin Humane Society in Springfield, MA.
