JEFFERSON – Russell A. Almstrom, Jr., age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Russell A. and Ellen M. (Byhman) Almstrom. Russ was raised in West Boylston, graduated from West Boylston High School, and later served in the National Guard.
Russ loved people and he loved cars. Russ would talk to anyone about anything, find connections with all, and make friends effortlessly. He was charming, funny, big-hearted, and a teaser. The more Russ loved you the more merciless he teased, resulting in plenty of clobbers from his annoyed grandchildren, only to laugh harder.
Russ had a dream of entrepreneurship, and he made his dream reality. Russ embodied grit and determination. He was hardworking, trustworthy, respected, and always an optimist.
Russ enjoyed the simple things in life. He worked hard and he spent time with family and friends. He loved the Cape, cookouts, a cold beer, dinner out with his wife, and Christmas. The man loved Christmas.
Russ left a lot of people that love him. Most of all his wife, best friend, and fellow PBS show watcher Lois F. (Hubbard) Almstrom; his son, Russell H. Almstrom and his wife, Erin of Rutland; his two sisters, Janice and Sandy; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his son, Christopher Almstrom.
There will be a private burial. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service at Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir St., Holden on Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
