Raymond J. Sansoucy

WORCESTER - Raymond J. Sansoucy, 96, of Worcester, MA died July 31, 2022. Ray is survived by his wife of 71 years, Janet B. (Aucoin) and three children Lauren Arnold and her husband Tom of Rochdale, MA, Paul Sansoucy and his wife Beth of Brooklyn, CT and John Sansoucy and his wife Donna of Worcester, MA. He also leaves six grandchildren, Jeff Sansoucy, Daniel Thibeault, Raymond Sansoucy, Julianna Thibeault, Thomas Sansoucy and Carly Sansoucy and four great grandchildren, Bryce Sansoucy, and Aidan, Ethan and Everly Thibeault. He also leaves his sister Doris Landsman and brother Richard Sansoucy along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dianne Thibeault, his brother Reynald Sansoucy and sister Lorraine Roberts.

Raymond was born on October 21, 1925 to Maxime and Alexandra (Lessard)Sansoucy. He was the oldest of the five siblings, and lived in Shrewsbury and Worcester. He attended Classical High School and Ray joined the Army and served during WWII. He was on an anti-tank unit serving in Europe and was in the 69th infantry division. PFC Sansoucy was awarded a combat infantrymen badge and was awarded a bronze star. After leaving the Army he met Janet and they were married February 3, 1951 at St. Mary’s Church in Spencer and built their family home in Worcester.

Ray began his extensive construction career learning various trades from his father and expanded to become a plasterer, mason and builder. He built many homes in the central MA area as operator of M. Sansoucy & Sons and was a past president of the Central MA Builders Assoc. Ray also founded Sansoucy Stone and Sansoucy Quarries which he then sold within the family.

Upon leaving the service, Ray obtained his pilot’s license and flew various planes over the years well into his eighties. He also played tennis for many years with the “Racqueteers”. A saver of all items, Ray could always find a part to fix a vehicle or wood for a project.

Ray and Janet raised their four children in Worcester, MA and had many gatherings with the extended Sansoucy clan and Vandale families. There were many family vacation and road trips to Vero Beach FL where Ray and Janet spent many winters at the “Fly In Ranch”. There were also annual trips to various builder conventions and WWII reunions. Ray was also a past member of the Freemasons Level Lodge in Shrewsbury.

Calling hours will be Sunday, August 14th from 2pm - 5pm at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street Holden, MA. A private service will be held at a later date at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution be made directly to Veterans of Foreign Wars of the USA (Headquarters in Kansas City, MO) or Why Me & Sherry’s House in Worcester, MA.
