WORCESTER - Dr. Peter L. Drob, a devoted surgeon, passed away unexpectedly after a fall at home on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Born and raised in Queens, New York, Peter, the son of Benedict and Selma (Klinghoffer) Drob, made Worcester his home for the last 59 years.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Elinor (Rosenblatt) Drob; his son, Douglas Drob of Waterford, PA; sister, Lana Mayer of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Peter is predeceased by a son, Joseph Drob, who passed away in 2002, and his mother-in-law, Deborah Rosenblatt.
Peter graduated from Queens College in New York and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1962. While serving his dental internship in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Boston City Hospital, he married the love of his life, Elinor Rosenblatt, on August 22, 1964. Together, they relocated to Worcester in 1967, where Peter established a dental office and practice specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
He was a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow at the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. From 1973 to 1976, he served as the secretary of the Worcester District Dental Society and later as chairman of the Patient Relations Committee from 1976 to 1988. Peter was also the president of the Medical and Dental Staff at Holden District Hospital. He contributed significantly to various dental associations, including the American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society, and the Massachusetts Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Additionally, he served as a staff member at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
In his leisure time, Peter enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at The Haven (Mt. Pleasant) Country Club in Boylston and relished the serenity of nature during his long walks. A passionate reader, he delved into topics ranging from politics to world affairs, always thirsting for knowledge. Peter is fondly remembered for his humility and his refusal to speak ill of others. He embraced life with enthusiasm, and to Ellie, he was her "Rock of Gibraltar," a symbol of unwavering strength.
A private graveside service was held at B'nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester.
