Paul R. Swenson

July 3, 1947 — October 15, 2024

Jefferson - Paul R. Swenson, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 following a courageous battle with leukemia. Diagnosed in 2021, Paul defied the odds with his strength and resilience, undergoing a successful bone marrow transplant that temporarily beat the cancer. Sadly, the leukemia returned earlier this year.

Born in Worcester to the late Roy and E. Pauline (Lindstrom) Swenson, Paul called Jefferson home for most of his life.

A graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Paul earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, though his career path followed a more rugged direction. As a self-employed logger, sawyer, surveyor, and land developer, he embraced a deep connection to nature and working with wood. Paul regularly enjoyed hiking Mt. Wachusett, which earned him the affectionate nickname "the mountain man," a fitting title for someone with a lifelong love of the outdoors.

Paul was a man of unwavering faith, devoting much of his time to Holden Chapel, where he was an active member and volunteer for many years. He also found a spiritual home at Journey Church in Worcester, where he formed many cherished friendships.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Elaine M. (Zoppo) Swenson, in 2015, Paul leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his sons, Eric P. Swenson and his partner Tara Beliveau of Jefferson, and Daren P. Swenson and his husband Kenny Ermann of Orlando, FL. He will also be deeply missed by his loving partner, Linda Gershman of Newton.

Family and friends are invited to gather for memorial calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2023, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A service celebrating Paul's life and faith will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the funeral home with interment to follow at Grove Cemetery, Main Street, Holden.
