Sterling - Paul V. Higgins, 66, died peacefully at home on Friday, October 14, 2022. He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Richard T. Higgins, Sr., and Maureen (Fenno) Higgins and grew up in Sterling.
Paul graduated from Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg and went on to earn a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Boston College. From a young age Paul had a deep appreciation for music, and while at Boston College he worked at the college radio station, and formed his band, with his best friends from college. After earning his degree, Paul worked with his father at R.T. Higgins and Sons, Inc. for several years. During this time he learned the construction trade which would serve him well throughout the rest of his life. Paul went on to manage the family built and owned Landlord Ben's Restaurant in Sterling. At Landlord Ben's, Paul shared his passion for cooking with his patrons and worked closely with his parents and siblings to make the restaurant a success. More recently, Paul owned and operated Paul's Fix it All, a handyman and general contractor service, with his son Tom.
Faith guided Paul throughout his life and he had been a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church in Sterling. For many years he ran the food concession at the Apple Fiesta at St. Richard's, and the food concession at the Sterling Horse Show, which drew him closer to his community and brought many people joy. Paul was a gifted musician and had started by playing the drums in his youth. He would eventually embrace the guitar and wrote his own songs. One of Paul's greatest joys in life was when he recorded an album with his band at Longview Farm Studio in North Brookfield; a studio that had hosted Aerosmith, J. Geils Band and the Rolling Stones among other famous musicians. Paul had a never-ending sense of wonder which spurred him to earn his scuba diving license and his pilot license.
Paul grew up on the family farm and had managed it for many years. After moving away for a time, he returned to the farm and renovated the barn to be his dream home with his wife and son. Seeing his home is to behold Paul's craftsmanship and devotion to carpentry in real life. He was a man who loved his home, his community and above all his family, and he will be dearly missed.
Paul was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Tina (Sullivan) Higgins in 2006. He is survived by his son, Tom Higgins and his girlfriend, Megan Conlin of Sterling; his brother, Richard T. Higgins, Jr. of Boylston; his sister, Patricia Blanchflower of Worcester; his niece, Maura Blanchflower and her boyfriend, Anthony Damico; his nephew, Jack Blanchflower and his wife, Lindy and their daughter, Lucy; as well as his beloved dog and closest companion, Peggy. Paul was also predeceased by his brothers, Sean Michael Higgins and Thomas J. Higgins III; and his sister, Maura Eileen Higgins.
