WORCESTER – Mary F. (Burke) Hennigan, 85, of 42 Moreland Street, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester.
Her husband, Paul F. Hennigan, died in 1983. She leaves two sons, Paul J. Hennigan of Manchester and Francis J. Hennigan of Worcester; two daughters, Barbara F. Cote of Holden and Mary E. McLean of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Christine Pingeton and Melissa Cote, Daniel Coomey, John McLean, Rita Mary, Katherine, and Jack Hennigan; three great-grandchildren, Katherine and Robert Pingeton and Casey Coomey; and a dear friend, Helen Salvia of Hopedale. Another dear friend, Marie Hagar, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Francis J. and Elizabeth (Henchey) Burke and lived all her life in Worcester. She took great pride in her ancestry that originated in Galway, Ireland.
Mrs. Hennigan graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. She worked for the City of Worcester School Department as a library clerk at several elementary schools. She was also the secretary to Ora Gatti, Art Director for the Worcester Public Schools, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. Previously, she had worked for the Fitzwell Company and the Loyalty Group Insurance Company, both in Worcester. She was a member of Christ The King Church and it’s Quilt Club, Social Club and Women’s Guild. She had a long time appreciation for art and music and also volunteered at Assumption College. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
The funeral for Mrs. Hennigan will be held on Monday, July 25, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ The King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Parker Road, on the Clinton/Lancaster line. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Central Catholic Elementary School, 865 Main St., Worcester, MA 01610.
