WORCESTER - Joyce L. (Cohen) Kass, age 83, died peacefully and surrounded by her family on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Born and raised in Rumford, Maine, Joyce was the daughter of Louis and Lillian (Bronstein) Cohen. Joyce was attending Boston University when she fell in love with Arthur B. Kass. They married in 1962 and settled in Worcester where they raised their two children. Joyce completed her B.S. in Elementary Education at Worcester State College in 1974. She worked for the Worcester Public Schools as a substitute teacher, a special education instructor, and an ESL teacher. She also taught Hebrew School at Temple Sinai.
Joyce had a gift for nurturing connections with family and friends through phone calls, handwritten notes and her self-made "Kassie Kards", which never failed to show up for birthdays, anniversaries and other important life events. She was always the biggest fan at every one of her children's sporting events and spent many years coaching her daughter's softball teams in the Jesse Burkett League. Joyce loved her Red Sox, Jeopardy, Dancing With the Stars, and playing Words with Friends. Recently she enjoyed reconnecting with old friends via Facebook.
Joyce will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband of 62 years, Arthur B. Kass of Worcester; her daughter, Beth Atkinson and her husband, Michael of Townsend; her son Daniel Kass and his wife, Sara of Attleboro; her grandchildren, Lewis Kass and Olivia Kass; her brother, Jerrold Cohen and his wife, Jennifer of Rumford, Maine; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her great grand-dog, Otto.
Family and friends will gather to honor Joyce's life at a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Interment will follow at B'nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John's Road, Worcester. Memorial Observance will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Jewish Healthcare Center/Eisenberg Assisted Living Residence, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609 (
