Biography
WORCESTER/PAXTON - John Kowaleski, 51 passed away Saturday, September 24, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Born in Worcester, John was the son of Joseph M. and Irene T. (Ostaszewski) Kowaleski and lived several years in Paxton and Harwich before moving back to Worcester in 2009.
John was a 1983 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School where he played varsity football. He attended Worcester State College and went to work at his family's business, Joe K's Liquor Store in Worcester and the Paxton Pub in Paxton. Later he worked for the Steamship Authority in Woods Hole, and as a cook at TPC Boston in Norton.
A passionate fisherman, John traveled throughout New England on fishing trips which included Lake Ontario, The Merrimack River, Cape Cod and ice fishing on Lake George. He was an avid New England Sports fan and enjoyed watching all four sports teams. John was a great cook and will be remembered for his holiday butternut bisque.
He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his mother, Irene (Ostaszewski) Kowaleski of Paxton; brothers, Joseph M. Kowaleski Jr. of Rutland and James Kowaleski of Paxton; sisters, Janet Carboni and her husband Paul of Milford, Christine Comeau and her husband James of Lake Luzerne, NY and Jennifer Hehir and her husband Mark of Paxton; eight nephews and nieces, four great nephews and nieces and many devoted friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John’s family from 1:30 pm to 4 pm on Saturday, October 1, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a service of remembrance at 4 pm.
