John J. Flynn Jr.

WEST BOYLSTON - John J. "Jack" Flynn Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester. He was born in Worcester, the son of John J. and Marion (Fitzgerald) Flynn and had lived in West Boylston for 32 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 27 years, Sandra (Christian) Flynn; his sons, Christopher Flynn and his wife, Tiffany of Hutchinson, KS and Joshua Savage and his wife, Kelly of Johns Creek, GA; his daughter, Julie Bembenek of Putnam, CT; his sister, Nancy Steuterman and her husband, Paul of Lehigh Acres, FL; his grandchildren, Zachary and Eric Baumann, Tyler Bembenek and Jethro Spiece; his nephews, Patrick and Brian Steuterman; his beloved dogs, Seamus and Luckas; and his precious cats, Kallie and Daisy. Jack was predeceased by his parents, his grandson, Jonathan Flynn and his nephew, Michael Steuterman.

Jack graduated from Burncoat High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Worcester State College. While at Worcester State he was part of the ROTC program and upon graduation, he was commissioned by the U.S. Air Force as a Second Lieutenant in 1972. He began his military career at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX and subsequent ICBM training at Vandenberg AFB in California. He was then assigned to McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS where he was he was responsible for ICBM silo installation. Upon the reduction in ICBM installations, he went into base security and policing. He was stationed at Kyoto AFB in Japan and returned to the U.S. after a 3 year assignment. Upon returning to Sheppard AFB in 1985, he retired as Captain.

Jack earned a Masters in Business Administration from St. Louis University. He had a passion for teaching, and had touched the lives of many students at the Leicester, Auburn and West Boylston Schools. Jack later worked as an adjuster for the state unemployment office, retiring in 2016. He was a member of the American Legion, Harold N. Keith Post 204 in West Boylston and the Knights of Columbus in Worcester. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and will be missed and remembered by his friends at the Eight Point Sportsman's Club in Sterling and Norco Sportsman's Club in Princeton where served as Past President for several years. He will be remembered for his kind, generous spirit and love for his family, community and country.

Relatives and friend are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 12th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richard's Ave., Paxton. Please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veteran's Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605 or to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
