HOLDEN, MA / BARNEGAT, NJ – Donald J. Auger, 83, of Barnegat, New Jersey, formerly of Holden, died peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin, New Jersey, after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Cynthia A. (Zetwick) Walsh Auger; a son, James D. Auger of Worcester; a daughter, Sharon E. Auger of Riverside, Rhode Island; a step-son, Richard Walsh of Piscataway, New York; three step-daughters, Cynthia M. Walsh of Bayville, New Jersey, Kathleen Cavallo of Beachwood, New Jersey and Kelly Cotoni of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Jeremy Auger of Holden and Jason Auger of New Hampshire; nephews and nieces. His first wife of 49 years, Nancy B, (Halcott) Auger died in 1997. A brother, Frederick M. Auger and a sister, Gladys Jobling predeceased him. He was born in Worcester the son of Reginald E. and Mary E. (Lyons) Auger and lived 49 years in Holden before moving to New Jersey in 2001.
Don graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade High School and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Holden for 31 years, retiring in 1987. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed tennis and golf.
The funeral service for Don will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 3rd in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 77 Cambridge Street, Worcester, MA 01603; or the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Gift Processing Center, P.O.
