WEST BOYLSTON – Josephine F. (Clark) Metcalf, 82, of Bunker Hill Parkway, passed away peacefully after an illness on Sunday, May 8, 2011, under the loving care of her family and the staff at Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Worcester.
She leaves her husband of 63 years, Guy D. Metcalf, Sr.; a son, Gary R. Metcalf and his wife Nancy of Princeton; a daughter, Karen H. Lebel-McGreal and her husband Patrick of West Boylston and a daughter in law Susan Metcalf of New Milford, CT.; 12 grandchildren; Guy David Metcalf III, Jennifer Heffernan, Meredith Metcalf, Lori Larson, Christopher Metcalf, Benjamin Metcalf, Lauren & Vanessa Lebel, Michelle Lenio, James, Jeffrey and Andrew Cardillo; 12 great-grandchildren; Her son, Dr. Guy D. Metcalf, Jr. died in 2009 and a grandson, Jonathan Metcalf, died in 2006. Two brothers, Fred Clark, Jr. and Thomas O’Connell, and two sisters, Shirley Weinberg and Greta Sibley, also predeceased her.
Josephine was born and raised in Revere, a daughter of Fred and Josephine (Hanson) Clark and lived in Worcester before moving to West Boylston in 1960. During World War II, she worked at Telechron, a division of GE. Josephine was a member of the United Congregational Church, 6 Institute Road, Worcester for over 55 years. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed vacationing with her family in Ogunquit, Maine each summer, family get-togethers during the holidays and summer cookouts. She will be sadly missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure to know her. Her beautiful blue eyes, her smile, infectious giggle and one single dimple will remain forever in our hearts and in our memory. We will never forget you, “Dimpie!”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12th, in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Hospice, 1183 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
