Evelyn A. (Deering) Bodwell

March 6, 1921 — January 29, 2005

STERLING – Evelyn A. (Deering) Bodwell, 83, of 32 North Row Road, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, in Leominster Hospital.

She leaves her husband of 60 years, Oscar P. Bodwell; her son, Kirk W. Bodwell and his wife June G. of Sterling; a daughter, Karen L. Schwehr and her husband James B. of Salem, Virginia; a brother, Dr. George E. Deering of Shrewsbury; twin granddaughters, Lora Byrd of Virginia and Lynn Marotta of North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren. A sister, M. Ruth Davis, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester in March of 1921, the daughter of Dr. George E. and Agatha L. (Small) Deering.

Mrs. Bodwell graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1939 and from the Univ. of Mass. in Amherst with a B.S. degree in 1943. She taught home economics at Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton and Wachusett Regional High School in Holden. More recently, she was secretary to the Principal at Houghton School in Sterling for 15 years. She was a member and deaconsess of the First Church in Sterling, was their Sunday School Superintendent, and served on various committees.

A memorial service for Mrs. Bodwell will the held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, in the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road, Sterling. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at the First Church in Sterling, P.O. Box 40, Sterling, MA 01564. Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, is directing arrangements.
