WORCESTER – Eva (Oliveira) Silvia, 93, a resident of the Colony Retirement Homes, died peacefully at the Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence, Worcester, on Friday, February 8, 2013. Eva was born in New Bedford, the daughter of Portugese immigrants, Henry and Zalmeida (Borba) Oliveira, and lived in South Dartmouth for many years.
Eva lost her loving husband of 48 years, Manuel M. Silvia, in 1993. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her son, David Silvia and his wife Sara of Goshen; her three daughters, Suzanne Dec and her husband Robert of Holden, Jane Silvia of North Dartmouth and Kathryn Silvia of Eastham; a brother, Henry Oliveira of South Dartmouth; two adoring granddaughters, Melanie and Stefanie Dec both of Brooklyn, New York.
Eva worked for 23 years for the Standard Times Newspaper in New Bedford, retiring as head bookkeeper of the Classified Department in 1984. She loved being a part of the Colony Retirement Home Community and leaves many dear friends at the Holden Street residence. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and cherished spending time with her family. Eva was a member of Saint George Church in Worcester.
The funeral for Eva will be held on Tuesday, February 12, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in Saint George Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Main Street (Rte. 122), Holden. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Eva may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
