Ellen P. (Savageau) Cournoyer

March 16, 1919 — April 21, 2013

Biography
WORCESTER – Ellen P. (Savageau) Cournoyer, 94, formerly of Boardman Street in Worcester, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Saint Vincent Hospital. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Telesphore J. and Etta M. (Plamondon) Savageau), and lived in Worcester all of her life most recently at Tatnuck Park.

Ellen graduated from Holy Name High School and was a cashier for 34 years at various Iandoli Supermarkets in the Worcester area. She was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Church and enjoyed baking, playing poker and loved gardening at her Boardman Street home where she lived for 47 years and raised her family.

Her husband of 62 years, Walter A. Cournoyer, died in 2004. She is survived by her children, James W. Cournoyer and his wife Cheryl of Holden, Ann E. Aucoin and her husband Thomas of Southborough, Patricia E. De Groot of Rochester Hills, MI; a brother, Norman Savageau of Worcester; 6 grandchildren, Lisa, David and Susan Matukaitis, Joseph Cournoyer, Melissa and Kristen St. Hilaire; 3 great-grandchildren, Grant Matukaitis, Gracie-Lynn and Annalyse Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Leo Savageau, and two sisters, Doris Wynne and Beatrice Weagle, predeceased her. Another sister, Jeannette V. Donohue, died on April 19th.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours for both Ellen and her sister, Jeannette, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial for both Ellen and Jeannette will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
