HOLDEN/BARRE – Daniel R. Kirkpatrick, 68, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at UMass Memorial Medical Center after an illness. Born and raised in Beloit, Wisconsin, Dan was the son of the late Robert and Evelyn (Beightley) Kirkpatrick and lived in Barre for three decades before moving to Holden several years ago.
Dan graduated from Beloit High School in 1968 and from Valparaiso University in 1972. He moved to New England to attend the New England School of Law, where he completed his JD in 1977. He went on to practice law in the Barre area.
Dan was an active member of the Barre community. He loved singing in his church choir, skiing, caring for his gardens and pets, and adventuring with his family. He could often be seen tooling around town in one of his vintage Mercedes, and especially enjoyed the winding roads and landscapes of his chosen home. He was charismatic and loved by many. He will be remembered for his engaging and selfless nature.
He is lovingly missed by his children, Erin Kirkpatrick and husband, Nathaniel Butler of Tempe, Arizona; Ryan Kirkpatrick and fiancé, Christine Kidder of Leominster, Massachusetts, and Anna E. Kirkpatrick of Portland, Oregon; his former wife, Lea (Niemeyer) Kirkpatrick; his brothers, Rick Kirkpatrick of Madison, Wisconsin and Donald Kirkpatrick of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Sean, Silas, Caleb, Maeve and Emma; close friends, Rick O’Shaughnessy and Marie-Gabrielle “Gabby” Isidore of Holden; and his six nieces. Dan is predeceased his parents, his brother Michael, and his sister Linda.
