HOLDEN - Bruce G. Butterfield, 71, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a prolonged battle with cancer. Born in Worcester on September 5, 1946, Bruce was the son of Henry W., Jr. and Evelyn (Anderson) Butterfield and was a resident of Holden for most of his life. Bruce graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1964 and received a B.A. from Clark University in Worcester in 1968, majoring in Romance Languages. He was an accomplished linguist, which led to his service in the Peace Corps in South Korea, followed by several years as an instructor at Sogang University in Seoul, one of the leading research and liberal arts universities in South Korea. Bruce later relocated back to Holden and subsequently worked for Caldor Stores, and most recently for many years at Hanover Insurance. Bruce was devoted to his four brothers and their families, never missing a chance to spend time with his many nieces and nephews. He loved to travel, was a voracious reader, knew everything about Hollywood cinema from the 1930’s and 1940’s, and enjoyed spending time with his family in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire.
