Bradford F. Hawley

May 12, 1927 — June 10, 2024

West Boylston - Bradford F. Hawley, 97, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 10, 2024. Born and raised in Holden, Brad was the son of C. Freeman and E. Constance (Newell) Hawley and lived for the last 70 years in West Boylston. His first wife, Nancy (Dunbar) Hawley, predeceased him in 2010 after 56 years of marriage.

Brad will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Luella M. Hawley; his son, David T. Hawley, and his wife Martha of Worcester; his daughter, Pamela K. H. Mitchell, and her husband Donald Mitchell of Hubbardston; his stepdaughters Bonnie Reynolds, and her husband John of Lunenburg, Cherie Kerxhalli and her partner Bob Gorton of Holden and their families. He was also cherished by his grandchildren, Jeremiah, Shane, Taylor, ReAnnen, and his great-grandson Andrew. He is predeceased by his sister, Barbara L. Nichols.

Brad graduated from Holden High School in 1945 and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1951. He owned and operated Howard Products, Inc. in Worcester for 41 years before retiring in 1995. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946. Brad was a member of the Retired Friends Club of Greendale in Worcester, the Worcester County Power Squadron, and was a former secretary of the Worcester Exchange Club.

Sailing was a big part of Brad's life starting as a young boy at New Silver Beach North Falmouth. He and Nancy spent over 25 years sailing around Cape Cod and Maine with family and with the Worcester County Power Squadron. Brad also enjoyed chartering sailboats in the British Virgin Islands. In addition to sailing, he loved woodworking and gardening around his home.

Brad was a man of few words, but he always took everything in and made subtle jokes to let you know what he was thinking. He taught his children and grandchildren through his actions and deeds. He could fix just about anything, often jury-rigged but solid.

A graveside service honoring Brad's life will be held privately at Mount Vernon Cemetery in West Boylston at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Congregational Church of Boylston, 10 Church St. Boylston, MA 01505.
