HOLDEN – William "Bill" E. Hale, 72, of Phillips Road, died on Thursday, October 15, 2009 in Cape Cod Hospital, Barnstable, after a long courageous battle with amyloidosis.
He leaves his loving wife and partner of 46 years, Betty Ann (Locke) Hale; four sons, Mark E. Hale and his wife Lesly of Leominster, Michael R. Hale and his wife Vanessa of Shrewsbury, Edward C. Hale and his wife Stacy of Worcester and William R. Hale of Holden; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" A. Davidian and her husband Peter of East Dennis; six grandchildren, Ashley, Kaylee, Emma, Sophia, Liam and Jack; and nieces and nephews. His brother, Robert L. Hale, predeceased him. Bill was born and raised in Holden, son of Edward C. and Edith G. (Needham) Hale. He was a graduate of the first graduating class from Wachusett Regional High School in 1955.
Bill graduated the Mass. College of Pharmacy in Boston and was a Pharmacist at Mayo's Pharmacy for many years. He later worked as an account representative at E.R. Squibb Pharmaceutical and as a Pharmacist at UMass Memorial Healthcare. He summered with Betty in West Yarmouth and worked for Hy-Line Cruises in Hyannis.
Bill was a 6-term member and former chairman of the Town of Holden Selectman,
2-term member of the Holden Housing Authority, a former member and past president of the Worcester County Selectman's Association, a member of the Republican Town Committee, St. Peter's Church, Greendale Retired Men's Club, the Nantucket Alumni Association, and a former active member of the Holden Jaycees. He was a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Mass. Justice of the Peace Association. He was the recipient of the Community Good Citizen Award from the Holden Grange.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 19th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Bill will be held on Tuesday, October 20th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter's Church, 929 Main Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wachusett Regional High School Booster Club, 1401 Main Street, Holden, MA 01520; or the Amyloid Treatment & Research Center, Boston University School of Medicine, 72 East Concord Street, K503, Boston, MA 02118.
