RUTLAND – Anne M. (Sullivan) Looney, 75, of 18 Village Way, formerly of Worcester, died Friday, June 19, 2004 in the presence of her loving family at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, Worcester after a long illness.
She leaves her husband of 50 years, James H. Looney; three sons, James M. Looney, his wife Brenda J. of Brookfield, Thomas P. Looney and his wife Tara L. of Paxton; and William D. Looney and his wife Shelby R. of Rutland; two daughters, Ellen M. Towner and her husband Michael A. of Rutland; and Martha A. Pond and her husband Eldon D. of Sutton; 12 grandchildren, Colleen E. Looney of Brookfield, Thomas P., Conor P. and Sean P. Looney all of Paxton, Meaghan E., Bridget A., Brian P., and Matthew J. Looney all of Rutland, Patrick M. and Kerri E. Towner both of Rutland, and Maeve C. and Elise M. Pond both of Sutton; a great-grandson, Brennan M. Looney; several nephews and nieces. Her brother, John M. Sullivan, died in 2000. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Michael P. and Florence K. (Vail) Sullivan, and lived most of her life in Worcester until moving to Rutland in 1997.
Mrs. Looney graduated from St. Peter’s High School and Worcester State College, both in Worcester. After graduating from college she taught first grade in Auburn for several years and later worked at Marcus Department Store, Barnard Real Estate Company and the Adult Learning Center all in Worcester. She was former long time member of Christ the King Church in Worcester where she was active in the Religious Educatiom Program. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland and enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her family vacationing on Cape Cod. Mr. and Mrs. Looney celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 19th of this year.
The funeral for Mrs. Looney will be held Monday, June 21, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 20, in the funeral home.
