HOLDEN – Mary Ann (Ushkurnis) Mercier, 56, of River Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester after a brief illness.
She leaves her devoted husband of 13 years, Steven E. Mercier; her twin sister, Ann Marie DiGregorio and her husband Leo of Holden; two brothers, Michael P. Ushkurnis of Worcester and James E. Ushkurnis and his wife Barbara of Paxton; and three nephews, Michael L. DiGregorio, Daniel J. DiGregorio and Derek J. Ushkurnis. She was born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Edward P. and Mary R. (Cronin) Ushkurnis, and lived 15 years in Holden.
Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School in 1973, attended Quinsigamond Community College and later worked in clothing, sales and retail for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson.
She enjoyed cooking, discussing current events, the ocean and family time at Hampton Beach. The room was always brighter when Mary Ann entered. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, courage, compassion to others and sense of style and fashion. She was a loving, kind, giving and very thoughtful person. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her family, her nephews and their friends who she referred to as “her boys”. She adored her two cats, Princess and Whiskers and her dog, Snoopy.
Mary Ann’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Saint Vincent’s Hospital including Dr. Goyal, Dr. Pacifico, Dr. Bessette and Dr. Najjar, for their care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 27th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, December 28th with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., P.O.
