Frank A. Wisner

HOLDEN – Frank A. Wisner, 83, of Sawyer Lane, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 in the Blaire House of Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Helen M. (Skerry) Wisner; two daughters, Jacquelyn M. Kelly of Princeton and Susan W. Weeks of Greenfield; six grandsons, Christopher, Jonathan and Thaddeus Kelly all of Princeton and Jesse, Jarad and Taran Weeks all of Greenfield. A son, Frank A. Wisner, Jr., five brothers, Theodore, Anthony, John, Joseph and Louis Wisner, and two sisters, Adeline Wagner and Stephanie Wisniewski, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, the son of John and Mary (Rogus) Wisniewski, and lived in Holden most of his life.

Mr. Wisner was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. While serving aboard the naval destroyer, USS Dupont, he received a Presidential Citation for his participation in the sinking of a German submarine. He participated in 12 convoy crossings to England before confronting a hurricane which disabled his ship. Later he served aboard the USS Lake Champlain, an aircraft carrier which was heading to the Pacific when the war ended.

He was a carpenter and supervisor for Chick’s Construction Company in Clinton where he worked for 17 years building schools in neighboring towns. He was later a local contractor before becoming the Building Inspector for the Town of Holden, where he worked 17 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, December 21st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Mr. Wisner’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 22nd, in St. Francis Episcopal Church, 70 Highland Street (Rte.31), Holden. Spring burial will be in Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA 01609.
